Holiday home break with sweat on your brow

Are you the type who just can’t sit still? Then a holiday near Juelsminde is perfect for you. Although the town is perfect for a holiday home break in peace and quiet, it is also surrounded by gorgeous nature and a landscape that is perfectly suited for mountain biking. You will have great opportunities to show off your two-wheeler in Tofteskoven and Bjerre Skov, which are both forest areas near Juelsminde. Tofteskoven has a 5-km MTB route with a relatively low difficulty level, so everyone can come along, while Bjerre Skov has a basic route of 7.5 km, which is also suitable for the whole family. However, this route can be made more challenging by tacking on an extra route, for a total stretch of 12.5 kilometres, which is somewhat more exerting. Afterwards you can rest and give your legs some time to recover in the sauna or the whirlpool back at the holiday home.

Summer holiday activities in Juelsminde

Juelsminde is a nice place to visit at all times of the year, but especially in July and August when many exciting things are going on in the town. A harbour party is held on the 28th week of each year, when the town’s streets are filled with life and good vibes. The harbour festival is a great way to experience that pure summer feeling in the form of music, amusements and food stalls as well as lots of laughter when stand-up comics take the stage. Over the course of the week there is also special entertainment for children, which makes the week of 11-17 July the perfect week for the whole family to holiday in Julesminde.

If you are fond of hiking, we would recommend the Coastal Path (Kyststien) around Juelsminde. The Coastal Path is 22 km, and it can be tackled in one go or divided up into multiple stages. The path takes you through the beautiful nature which surrounds Juelsminde and follows the coast for much of the way.

Sights in Juelsminde

Once you start to feel relaxed after a few days in the holiday home and your fingers have begun to resemble raisins from so many hours in the summer house pool, you may feel like the time has come for an excursion to experience something outside of your holiday home’s four walls. You will find plenty of options for this in Juelsminde, both during and outside the summer season. For example, swing by Palsgaard Castle, which was built in the 13th century. The castle is surrounded by gardens, and even if it is no longer used for its original purpose, it hasn’t exactly been left abandoned. Today you can visit a museum about the castle itself and then walk 1.5 km south west towards the location of the current castle.

If royalty is not really your thing, then you can instead visit the Juelsminde Harbour Museum, which tells the story of the town’s development from a small fishing village to a bigger town with daily ferry crossings to Zealand. This will not only stimulate your sense of history but also your sense of taste during the so-called smoking days, which are held here several times over the course of the year. Here visitors can taste different types of smoked mackerel and beer as they listen to live music from Røgepladsen, which is located beside the museum.

Another fun and educational summer holiday activity in Juelsminde is the Glud Museum. Every summer, the East Jutland Agricultural Museum opens its doors to 14 of their original houses from the 17th century, and they enhance the experience through enjoyable family activities such as bowling. This also gives children the chance to learn more about what life was like 400 years ago by milking a cow or fetching water from the water pump. As the icing on the cake, there are also active workshops on certain days where old crafts and trades are presented and demonstrated to visitors.
