Here at VillaVilla, we rent out many summer houses in North Jutland, but so far we have just one located in Thorup Strand. However, it is a holiday home with all the heart could possibly desire when it comes to a summer holiday. It can accommodate up to 18 guests across its seven bedrooms, which are divided into two distinct sleeping quarters. Plus it also has a loft with mattresses which can sleep up to four people. The loft is especially popular with younger guests, as it gives kids the opportunity to lay claim to their own little den just for themselves – strictly no adults allowed!

But when it comes to spending quality time together as a group you will have several different options. If you want, you can kick back on the sofa and enjoy a relaxed evening of chat and board games by the wood-burning stove. Or if you are away over the summer you can sit out on the lovely terrace. Here you will find garden furniture, a whirlpool and hopefully sunshine. Also outside is a veritable play paradise for kids, with a trampoline, swing and sandbox. Perfect for keeping the children entertained while the adults enjoy each other’s company in green and beautiful surroundings, perhaps sipping a refreshing drink from the home bar of the holiday house. The summer house is located just 500 metres from the beach in Thorup Strand, which means you can easily nip back and forth should you feel like a quick dip in the sea or in the event that you accidentally leave something behind at the holiday house while off on a day at the beach. 

The holiday home that we rent out in Thorup Strand also offers a few extra perks to really sweeten the deal. Among other things, you will find charging sockets for electric cars, should you happen to arrive in one – plus the whole family is invited inside. And by that we mean that you are permitted to bring up to two pets with you on your holidays, without having to pay any additional charges. Should you need to bring more four-legged friends than that, you are welcome to contact us and we will pass your request on to the owner. Just remember that it is always your responsibility to ensure that pets do not damage the house and that you comply with all local rules in the area.

Facilities in the holiday home at Thorup Strand

Our summer house in Thorup Strand has something which almost all of the houses we rent out at VillaVilla have and which our guests simply love. We are of course referring to the activity room. The activity room is a place where you will have no trouble spending many hours during your stay. Here you will find table tennis, billiards, table football, darts and a PlayStation 4. Please note, however, that you must bring your own games for the games console if you want to make us of it. If a PlayStation means nothing to you, then not to worry, as the other games on offer do not require any technology know-how and are at least just as fun to play for multiple players at once. Break off into teams and hold a family tournament. It is up to you to decide what’s at stake. Honour, doing the dishes or something else altogether? It is up to you to decide what the winner gets or what the loser has to do, just so long as it doesn’t get in the way of the great holiday atmosphere, which should be the focus of your holiday!

With so many people all under one roof, preparing meals can be something of a challenge. We have tried to make this as easy as possible in our holiday home at Thorup Strand by equipping the house with what we refer to as an XL kitchen. This type of kitchen is designed for situations in which many people are gathered together, and therefore, it has two ovens, two cookers, two fridges and two dishwashers. In addition, there is also plenty of surface space, so multiple chefs can do their thing at the same time or one person can empty the dishwasher while others prepare the evening meal. 

Summer holiday in Thorup Strand with pool and wellness

As mentioned earlier, the holiday home is only 500 metres from the beach, but if the weather is not quite right for a beach trip or if you prefer to stay at home, it won’t take long to find an alternative activity. This is because the holiday house has its own pool section with a large pool. The pool has Roman steps, which makes getting in and out a piece of cake. It also allows the little ones to find their courage and get in at their own pace, should the deep water seem a little scary. In addition the pool area also has a water slide and counter-current system so happy swimmers can really cut loose and go wild. A large glass section ensures a view of the pool area from the kitchen and dining space.

If relaxation and wellness are more your style, then you can enjoy a moment of serenity in the summer house sauna. Inside, there is room for several of you to warm up and enjoy a yarn together after returning freezing cold from a brisk walk or a dip in the sea. Or alternatively you can take up a spot all by yourself and enjoy the heat in peace and tranquillity.

Fishing and holidaying in Thorup Strand

Besides being an incredible example of just how beautiful Denmark can be, Thorup Strand is also one of the largest coastal landing sites in Northern Europe and the only active full-time commercial landing site in Denmark. What does this actually mean? It means there is lots of fishing going on at Thorup Strand, and you will be able to watch the fishing boats being pulled up on shore on a daily basis. A huge part of the appeal in Thorup Strand is precisely this meeting between an old trade and the modern world. You will transported back to a simpler time, and you will experience a sense of inner peace as you watch the fishermen in full swing doing the thing they do best. It would be a huge shame to go to Thorup Strand on your holiday and not visit its wonderful coastal landing site.

Buy some fresh fish for your dinner

Thorup Strand is pure maritime atmosphere through and through. It simply cannot be avoided. You will notice it all around as you go for walks along the beach. The tracks in the sand from the boats that have been hauled up onto land and the many picturesque boats which are lined up in a row waiting to go back out onto the waves of the sea yet again. Thorup Strand Fiskehus is a great place to grab a bite to eat. Here, local fish dishes are prepared using the local fishermen’s catch of the day. The fish here taste as fresh as can be, and that is hardly unusual since only a few hours will have passed from they were on the hook. Naturally you will also have the opportunity to buy some fresh fish to take home, which you can then prepare for your evening meal. The fish caught at Thorup Strand can also be bought at the Smokehouse (Røgeriet) in Vester Thorup and at auction in Hanstholm. In the summer it is mostly plaice which is fished, while the winter catch consists primarily of cod.

Angling on your holiday home break

With fishing being such a pervasive pursuit in the area, it can hardly come as any surprise that Thorup Strand is also a great place to visit if you are interested in angling. Fishing is permitted all along the beach, which is easily accessible. However a national fishing licence is required. This can be purchased online from the Danish Agency for Agriculture and Fisheries for different periods of time: e.g. daily, weekly and yearly. Once that is taken care of, you will find spots to catch cod, flatfish and sea trout in the local area.
