Start at the beach of the island lake, which was formed 10,000 years ago during the last ice age. It got its name from Schöninsel, the island in the lake. The climatic spa resort of Krakow am See is located in a particularly charming area at the intersection of Mecklenburgischer Schweiz and Mecklenburg Lake District, on the shore of the Krakower See. It is one of the oldest climatic spa resorts in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The varied landscape, which includes lush green meadows, wooded hills, groups of trees, forests, and idyllically located lakes, provides numerous opportunities for nature-based activities and both physical and mental relaxation.

The valley region of Nebeldurchbruchstal, between Serrahn and Kuchelmiss, is a place of particular beauty. The nature reserve of Krakower See is a wetland of international importance with its rich diversity of species and population of rare water birds. Here it is still possible to see white-tailed eagles in free flight.

The Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide nature park is located just outside the town of Krakow am See. You will be amazed by the wonderful interplay of water, forests, rolling hills, flora and fauna.

You can enjoy impressive panoramic views of the 15 lakes around Krakow from the observation tower on the Jörnberg.

Bärenwald Müritz

Bärenwald Müritz is a bear sanctuary near Stuer, located at the southern tip of Plauer See. It was opened in October 2006 and is a project by the animal welfare organisation Vier Pfoten. With a total area of 16 hectares, the Bärenwald is Western Europe’s largest bear conservation centre. Visitors can learn more about the animals’ lives at various stations located throughout the site. In summer, about 54,000 people visit the Bärenwald sanctuary. In addition, the Bärenwald offers an adventure forest playground, exhibition stations, bear shop, regional organic food bistro, group tours and much more…

 

Summer toboggan run

The summer toboggan run has seven steep turns and six chicanes. The difference in altitude of 30 metres is overcome using a drag lift, meaning no one has to climb a mountain. The speed can be controlled using the brake lever and the toboggans are available for single or double rides. If you follow that up with a visit to the monkey forest, you can make direct contact with the friendly cheeky monkeys.

 

Schloss Güstow

Schloss Güstrow is located in the Barlach town of Güstrow, south of Rostock and north of Krakow am See. It is considered one of the most important Renaissance buildings. The palace was designed as a programmatic synthesis of older local castles and motifs from Italian and French Renaissance architecture. The palace has magnificently decorated court rooms and a well-stocked permanent exhibition with an important medieval collection, Renaissance art and craftwork, ducal hunting and ceremonial weapons, as well as antiquity glass. The exhibition also includes paintings from the GDR as well as antique ceramics and contemporary art.

 

The monastery village of Dobbertin

The Dobbertin monastery complex is romantically situated on the lake of the same name. The monastery can also look back on 800 years of history and used to be one of the richest medieval monasteries in northern Germany. It was founded in 1220 by monks of the Benedictine order. The monastery has a monastery shop and a brewery.
The grounds can be visited every day. Tours with audio guides are also possible.

 

Müritz Nationalpark

Müritz Nationalpark is the largest terrestrial national park in the Federal Republic of Germany and is located to the south of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It stretches from the banks of the Müritz to the Feldberg Lake District nature park. The reserve is known for its white-tailed eagles and ospreys, as well as for the thousands of cranes that roost there in autumn. The extensive network of cycling and hiking trails is complemented by observation towers, observation platforms and nature discovery trails, that allow visitors to actively explore the area. Nationalpark-Information Federow offers information, advice, ospreys live, national park shop, guided walks and cycle tours, bicycle hire, camper van pitches and changing special exhibitions. Discover the Müritz-Nationalpark by bus and boat from May to September and use the Müritz-Nationalpark ticket.

 

Agroneum Alt Schwerin

The small village of Alt Schwerin is located at the heart of Mecklenburg. As early as 1963, it was decided to turn the small village into a special kind of museum. The structure of the village offered the right environment for an open-air museum. The Agroneum Alt Schwerin introduces visitors to Mecklenburg’s agricultural history from 1848 up to the present day. The Schnittkaserne houses an original GDR exhibition on the theme of 5000 years of agriculture. The large open-air site, which includes a village smithy, a wheelwright’s workshop, a Dutch windmill, a sawmill, a ropemaker, and a field railway, completes the museum ensemble.
