Denmark’s third largest city, Odense, is within reasonable driving distance from the Faaborg area and is absolutely worth a visit. Among other things, the old town in Odense is where you will find the childhood home of author H. C. Andersen, while the southern part of the town is home to the open-air museum, the Funen Village (Den Fynske Landsby).
As mentioned, South Funen is brimming with great opportunities to explore the region’s beautiful nature. From Faaborg you can grab your bike and cycle part of the 820 km Baltic Sea Route (Østersørute). You can find information about many other great cycle routes by contacting the local tourism office. The area around Faaborg is also great on foot. Just a short distance from the town are Svanninge Hills (Svanninge Bakker), which are great for a hike in hilly terrain.
