Head to Rømø for your next holiday
The easiest way to describe Rømø would be simply to call it what it is – a true holiday paradise and a veritable oasis of wide beaches, beautiful nature and a cosy holiday atmosphere right in the heart of the fantastic Wadden Sea. Rømø is one of the Wadden Sea islands that you should visit on your next family holiday in Denmark. Rømø is the only one of the Wadden Sea Islands that has a direct bridge connection from the mainland to the island. The bridge is called Rømø Dæmningen and it is a 9.2 km long bridge connection, which was built in 1948. The drive over the bridge is the first part of your holiday that you are going to really love. When you drive from Skærbæk in Southern Jutland and over towards Rømø, you will be driving west with a view over the Wadden Sea and its islands, and if you get the timing just right, the sky will be a beautiful display of fiery colours as the sun goes down.
This perfect view is what welcomes you to the resort island of Rømø. The island only has around 600 permanent residents, but in the summer and the autumn, it is buzzing with life since many tourists and happy holiday home guests flock to this wonderful location. Here at VillaVilla, we rent out a couple of holiday homes on Rømø, which are just great for a family holiday and well set up to accommodate different needs and preferences. No matter which of the houses you choose to rent, we guarantee you will not be disappointed. Both houses are able to create the perfect setting for a pleasant and relaxing holiday in the charming atmosphere on Rømø.

Facilities in the holiday homes on Rømø
At VillaVilla, we rent out two different holiday houses in this area which are each slightly different from each other. Both holiday homes are well equipped to offer an exciting and enjoyable holiday and both have all the facilities you need for a fantastic break together with family.
There are several things which are common to both houses. Both of our holiday homes on Rømø have an activity room. The activity room is a facility that we here at VillaVilla are happy to offer in almost all of the holiday houses we rent out because it is a room which really helps to bring everyone together and get that holiday fun started. In both of the summer houses this room is a real games den where you will find table tennis, table football, darts and billiards. All games which are easy to learn but, like most things in life, difficult to master. They are also all games that everyone in the family will be able to enjoy and appreciate. What could be more fun than hours of duels, matches and tournaments between everyone in the group? Holiday Home No. 182 also has a PlayStation 2. Just remember to bring your own games, otherwise the console will be little use since there are no games in the house itself.
The large living room in both houses has a sofa group and a wood-burning stove for cosy vibes. Get the fire going and make yourself nice and snug on cold evenings in the winter as you listen to the crackling of the fire, sip on a cup of hot chocolate and play some board games. It won’t take long to get that real holiday home feeling with a set-up like this.
Alternatively if you’re visiting in the summer, with all its bright nights, sunshine and glorious temperatures, then the outdoor terrace will be just the ticket. Chill out in the comfy garden furniture with a good book, an ice cream or a cold glass of something-or-other as you chat away and watch on as the kids play on the lawn, the swing set or in the sandbox. All age groups will feel as though their needs and preferences for a great holiday are well taken care of.
Staying in a holiday home on Rømø with pets
One last thing we would like to mention about the holiday homes on Rømø is that both summer houses are pet friendly. This means that you are more than welcome to bring your four-legged family members with you on your holiday. Up to two pets will always be permitted in these houses; however, if you need to bring more, you are always welcome to contact us here at VillaVilla. We will pass your request on to the homeowner and get back to you as quickly as possible with an answer. Just remember that it is always your responsibility to make sure that your pets do not damage the holiday home during your stay. We would also like to remind you that dogs are not always permitted in certain areas in the surrounding environment, such as beaches and other places. This may vary depending on the time of year when you are visiting. But otherwise your four-legged friends are more than welcome to join in on the holiday fun!
Holiday Home No. 182 on Rømø
Holiday Home No. 182 is a large house which can accommodate up to 20 guests. When so many guests are all in one place at the same time, the noise levels can be quick to rise and chaos may reign unless everyone’s needs are taken into account. This holiday home is designed to prevent just that from occurring. The bedrooms are divided across three distinct sleeping quarters, which makes it easy to respect different bedtimes and the need for peace. Plus it also has two lofts, which can each sleep two guests. The lofts are best suited for children and tend to be a huge hit with younger guests, as they can take over their very own little den and claim a part of the house all to themselves – strictly no adults allowed!
The summer house also has its own pool area. The pool area is a place where you can have fun in the water and enjoy some wellness on your trip. It has a large pool with water slide, and in the corner of the pool room, you will find a whirlpool where the adults can relax at the same time as they keep a watchful eye on all the goings-on in the pool. You will also find a sauna with enough room for a small group. The sauna is perfect for a quiet moment or a casual chat as you warm up after a dip in the water or a brisk walk around Rømø.
What’s more, Holiday Home No. 182 is especially baby friendly. In all the holiday homes we rent out here at VillaVilla, you will always find at least one cot and one highchair. Some of our holiday homes are then further classified as especially suitable for small children, which means that they also have a bathtub for babies and a baby changing table available. This is the case at this house, which means that you can use the space in your car for other things, rather than filling it up with stuff for your little ones.
Holiday Home No. 182 also has a fire pit which you are free to use. Toast some marshmallows outdoors on hot summer nights or heat up some hot chocolate over the embers on cooler days in the autumn.
Holiday Home No. 190 on Rømø
Holiday Home No. 190 is intended for a smaller family or two families who want to spend their vacation together. The house can accommodate up to 12 guests and has two sleeping areas with two bedrooms in each one. This is the ultimate set-up for families who want to have a space for themselves during their holiday together. In addition, there is also a loft with four mattresses, which is especially suitable for children.
This holiday home does not have a pool; however, it does offer an exquisite sauna and a delightful whirlpool. These facilities make it easy for you to unwind and enjoy a relaxing vacation in the spirit of wellbeing. Thaw up your bones after a dip in the blue sea, and once you are feeling thoroughly warmed up, you can nestle down on the sofa together and fire up the wood-burning stove. This holiday home is ideal for enjoying precisely that kind of relaxed, quality time in each other’s company.
Rømø as a holiday destination
You will always find plenty to do when you go on holiday to Rømø, no matter what time of year you choose to visit. Rømø Strand is a quick walk from both of the holiday homes, although you can also easily travel there by car. The beach is the largest in all of Scandinavia and measures up to 3 km in width and 12 km in length. It is a great place to walk, paddle, swim and feel the wind in your hair. You will also find ample opportunity to practise various sports on the beach, as both the strong winds and long beach provide optimal conditions for activities such as Kite Buggying and Blokarting. The tides come in and recede significantly twice a day. This is an utterly unique natural phenomenon that you simply mustn’t miss and which is characteristic of the Wadden Sea islands.
Rømø may be a small island, but it is home to many sights and activities. Plus you can easily travel to the mainland if you want to explore South Jutland, or you can visit other islands in the Wadden Sea, such as Fanø. If you are up to it, you can go hunting for oysters or hike around Rømø. There are several routes, which take you around the island and its many natural environments. The routes vary in length, but they are typically 2–4 km in length and take between fifteen minutes and an hour to complete. They will take you through the three plantations on the island – Tvismark, Kirkeby and Vråby – offering several fantastic vantage points of the island, its gorgeous nature and the gorgeous Wadden Sea.
