Beautiful nature and exciting attractions on Zealand
Nature on Zealand is very diverse. If you drive along the north coast, you will find the most fantastic sandy beaches, with great options for swimming. Or if you drive south, you will experience Møns Klint with its vertical slopes and gorgeous fossils. Plus there are also lots of green forests where you and your family can bring along your picnic basket and enjoy some peace and tranquillity.
You will also be close to Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen, and all of its attractions. A canal tour in Copenhagen is a must for all tourists. The canal boat makes for a great way to experience the city from the water. The tour will take you past the little mermaid and many of the city’s famous buildings, such as the Børsen stock exchange, the Opera House and the Black Diamond.
If you like amusement parks then you should absolutely visit Tivoli Gardens, in the heart of the city, or Bakken which is located in the scenic woods of the Deer Park (Dyrehaven) to the north of Copenhagen. The old wooden roller coaster at Bakken is a must – it was built all the way back in 1932 and is still going strong. After the rush of the coaster, you can then take a walk through the deer park and check out the wildlife. More than 2000 wild deer live in this large wooded area. You can also take an idyllic horse-drawn carriage ride around the area.
The animals are always popular with both kids and animals. Copenhagen Zoo is open all year round, and holds regular events for both kids and adult visitors. You can also visit The Blue Planet (Den Blå Planet), which replaced the old national aquarium in 2013. The Blue Planet is the largest aquarium in Northern Europe. Here you can spend one of the days on your holiday meeting fish, otters, sharks and many other animals.
There are lots of different things that you can see and do together with friends and family when you stay in a holiday home on Zealand.
Close to nature in a holiday home in North Zealand
Besides long, white, sandy beaches, North Zealand is also an area that is rich in different natural landscapes, such as forests, heathland, hills and fjords, such as Ise Fjord and Roskilde Fjord. If you are a family that enjoys doing outdoor activities together, then North Zealand is the perfect place for a family vacation.
Take your bikes with you to the holiday home and enjoy the region from the comfort of your saddle. North Zealand has many fantastic cycle routes, which are designed to help you take in as many great experiences as possible underway. Many areas also have trails for mountain bikers. For example, set your sights on Teglstrup Hegn, which is a forest with trails for both beginners and seasoned practitioners.
North Zealand is also a great destination for anyone who likes water sports. The coastline has unique wind conditions for both kitesurfing and windsurfing, while stiller pursuits such as kayaking and SUP paddleboarding are also possible on Lake Esrum, the Iser Fjord and so on.
The area around Odsherred is categorised as a Geopark and receives support from UNESCO, among others. This means that its unique ice-age landscape has many information facilities and lots of hiking and cycle routes. The Geopark also holds a large number of events all through the year which focus on the many local food producers and craftspersons who are active in the area.
Skjoldungernes Land National Park is located in the area around Roskilde, Lejre and Frederikssund. Some of the things you can do here include renting a canoe from the park and getting out onto Roskilde Fjord. Float along the calm waters of the fjord, past islands and islets, for a close look at some of the birds which live in the area. You could even bring along your fishing rods and catch some fish to put on the barbecue back in your holiday home.
Located in the area close to our luxury holiday houses in Tisvildeleje, Asserbo and Vejby Strand is a place called Tibirke Hills (Tibirke Bakker). The area was acquired by private individuals in the early 1800s and is still privately owned today. It is permitted to walk the area’s paths and trails. Follow the trail named Udsigten for some great views out over Lake Arresø.
Holiday in a summer house on Zealand all year round

You will also be guaranteed some fun in the water when you stay in a holiday home in North Zealand, even if you come in the winter. Adults can relax and enjoy a break from all the fun and games in the whirlpool or in the sauna, which is located in the pool room.
Zealand itself also offers many events and activities which you can enjoy indoors throughout the year. The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk has one of the largest art collections from the 20th century in Scandinavia. The museum has a children’s wing with lots of fun activities for little ones. This is a good opportunity for kids to get creative and paint together.
Kronborg Castle and Fredensborg Palace are both a unique experience no matter the weather, while the Karen Blixen Museum is a good opportunity to learn more about one of Denmark’s most popular authors of all time. Find your luxury holiday house in North Zealand
We offer luxury holiday home rentals in multiple places around North Zealand. We have luxury houses with a pool, spa and heaps of fun in Tisvildeleje, Vejby Strand, Gilleleje, Hornbæk and Asserbo.
Tisvildeleje
Tisvildeleje is home to one of the most child-friendly beaches in North Zealand. It is also where you can find what is (perhaps) the most famous spring in all of Denmark – Helene Kilde. If it is an active mountain biking holiday you are after, then a holiday home vacation in Tisvildeleje is a natural choice. Tisvilde Hegn is a large forest with a 28-km blue track, which is suitably challenging for both beginners and seasoned bikers. The trail is the longest on Zealand, but can be divided up into three different lengths. Each year in July there is music and good vibes in the area during the Musik i Lejet festival, which is held on the beach in Tisvilde.
Vejby Strand
Located just a stone’s throw away from Tisvildeleje is Vejby Strand, which is also a really nice holiday home area. The area sits high above the water, offering a fantastic view over the Kattegat. You will also be close to the unique nature area Heatherhill. The landscape here is reminiscent of the Scottish highlands, with gorgeous heather-clad hills formed during the last ice age. Heatherhill is a protected natural area, just like the nearby Tibirke Hills with its gorgeous view. If you rent a luxury holiday home in Vejby Strand, you will also have direct access to the area’s very child-friendly beach.
Gilleleje
Gilleleje is an old fishing village in North Zealand, which has largely retained its charming atmosphere from days gone by. The old fishing huts and the idyllic ambience around the harbour are synonymous with a fun holiday atmosphere. But new things are also happening all the time in Gilleleje. The Gilleleje Culture Harbour (Kulturhavn) opened in 2016. This is a cultural centre with restaurants, a library and temporary exhibitions. Holidays in Gilleleje combine seaside idyll, days by the beach and fun together time with lots of life, culture and nature. Our luxury holiday homes are all close to the town’s shopping streets, which are lined by well-preserved thatched-roof houses. Not to mention the fishing port where you will find many restaurants offering freshly caught fish. Plus they are also close to the beach Gilleleje Veststrand, which has a Blue Flag and is located to the west of Gilleleje Harbour and the town’s many charming shops, restaurants and cafés. Gilleleje has it all.
Hornbæk
Hornbæk is one of the most popular seaside resorts on Zealand, and you will find lots of life and activity in the town. Hornbæk is the home of Denmark’s first ever holiday home, and ever since, it has been a firm holiday favourite among Copenhageners and everyone else who loves the beach and that cosy summer feeling. You will be able to enjoy time on the beach if you rent a holiday home in Hornbæk. The beach in Hornbæk is wide and sandy, with good water quality. The high dunes in the area provide shelter on windy days. Your holiday home in Hornbæk will be close to the forest, too. Hornbæk Plantage is home to diverse nature and many hiking trails, where you can enjoy the view of the Øresund and Sweden. There is a beach playground by the harbour in Hornbæk, where the kids can have fun while the adults relax in the sun. Hornbæk is also close to countless sights, such as Kronborg Castle and Fredensborg Palace.
Asserbo
Asserbo is a really exciting area where you will have ample opportunity to enjoy spending time in nature together as a family. Asserbo Plantage is connected to the Tisvilde Hegn forest and nature area, where you will find white sandy beaches and lots of day-trip options. If you like spending time out on the green, then the golf courses in Asserbo are definitely worth a visit.
